AIM HIGH Learning Center Individualized
Learning: The AIM HIGH Learning Center is designed to provide the additional support that is sometimes necessary to insure that a Mt. Helix Academy student is academically and socially successful. The services are individually planned and provided under the guidance of teachers credentialed in special education and certified in a variety of critical teaching areas by The Institute for Effective Educations rigorous program of certification. AIM HIGH Learning Center programs include: Resource Program: for students enrolled in Mt. Helix Academy who require a more intensive instructional program in one or two subject areas in order to make satisfactory academic progress. The Resource Program is a "pull-out" program which provides intensive instruction in target subjects to students having problems at the same time the subject is being taught to their peers. In this way, Resource Program students do not miss instruction in those subjects in which they are successful. Academic Tutoring Program: for students enrolled in Mt. Helix Academy, other AIM HIGH programs or in neighborhood schools. Tutoring is appropriate for students who need supplemental instruction in one or more subjects in order to maintain adequate progress in their regularly scheduled classes. Coaching Program in Study, Organization and Social Skills: for students enrolled in Mt. Helix Academy who need intensive instruction and guided practice in skills other than academics, including following teacher instructions, organizing materials, making friends, and so on. Homework Club: for students who prefer to complete their homework at school and for students who need extra supervision in order to complete their homework successfully. Day School Program: for students who are not succeeding academically in usual school environments. The day school program provides elementary and middle school students with individualized instruction in all subject areas. Academics are taught individually or in very small groups with students placed at the appropriate skill level to maximize their success. Self-management, organization skills, and social skills are carefully taught. Students in the AIM HIGH Day School may attend classes at the Mt. Helix Academy campus, at the Cook Education Center in Mission Valley or a combination of the two depending on the students individual needs. AIM HIGH students will participate with Mt. Helix Academy age-mates in academics, visual and performing arts, and physical education when appropriate. AIM HIGH Summer Camp is an academic program for elementary school-aged students designed to improve fluency in basic academic skills. Two, four or five-week morning sessions are offered each summer. Students can enroll in the regular Mt. Helix Academy afternoon camp as well.

Comments on Mt. Helix Academy's AIM HIGH program from San Diego child advocate and psychologist Dr. Darlene Sweetland: “Mt. Helix Academy’s AIM HIGH program delivers results for children with diverse learning needs. It has been a great program for my clients because of small class size, not just teacher ratio, specialized learning programs with fluency-based skills emphasis, a K-8 school campus with high academic general ed achievements, integration and easy transition of AIM HIGH students with general ed, a low stimulation environment and access to extracurricular activities, individualized planning on the part of the teachers, and a great summer academic program. The families I work with are so happy to have found AIM HIGH! Dr. Darlene Sweetland, member, S.D. Psychological Association
